Origins and Tidbits:
Written by John Hughes
Directed by Chris Columbus
Harry and Marv's van says, "Oh-Kay Plumbing & Heating" which is a reference to Leo Getz from Lethal Weapon movies where Joe Pesci's character says, "Okay, okay" all the time.
The neighbor, Old Man Marley, is supposed to be a serial killer, according to the kids. Roberts Blossom, the actor, played serial killer Ed Gein in Deranged: Confessions of a Necrophile.
Old Man Marley was not part of the original script. But he was added in to give the movie a little more heart. It is thought the name Marley comes from A Christmas Carol, Bob Marley, Scrooge's partner.
Macaulay Culkin drew the map Kevin uses to set up the traps.
Chris Columbus' biggest fear was burglars, which is why he was involved in the movie. The concept of the movie is from "Uncle Buck".
O'Hare International Airport was actually Charles de Gaulie Airport, aka Roissy Airport in Paris.
Different Titles for Home Alone across the world: Spanish countries was "My Poor Little Angel", Brazil was "They Forgot me" and France and Italy was "Mom, I missed the Plane".
Joe Pesci avoided Culkin onset because he wanted the boy to think he was mean and actually scarred him when he bit his finger.
The movie Kevin is watching that has the line "You filthy animal" in it is called "Angels with Filthy Souls" which does not exist. It was created specifically for Home Alone.
John Candy's role was shot over a continuous 23 hour stint. And he improvised the story about forgetting his son at the funeral home.
The house is located in Winnetka, IL and built in the 1920s. It sold for 1.5 million.
The Santa that shares his Tic-Tacs with Kevin actually owned the Honda Civic and it actually stalled out.
Elvis sighting….apparently some believe Elvis is standing behind Kevin's mom right before she meets John Candy.
The stove in the basement came "alive" by 2 guys with fishing line and a flashlight.
When the father, Peter McCallister, is cleaning the kitchen counter, there is a shot that shows he threw away Kevin's ticket. Even if Kevin would have woken up on time, he would have not have made it on the plane. And knowing this family they probably STILL would have left him behind.
